IFOY AWARD 2017: The winners

On the opening evening of transport logistic, the world's best intralogistics devices of the year took center stage at the IFOY Award Night at BMW Welt in Munich. Eleven devices and solutions from seven manufacturers made it to the final this year. After the six-month selection and testing procedure, there was huge jubilation when the presenters announced the traditionally well-guarded names of the winners. Jungheinrich, Still and Torwegge won in four categories and accepted the metal and glass trophies to the applause of the 200 invited guests.

"Industry 4.0 is taking giant strides into intralogistics. The winners have demonstrated innovations that not only promise quantum leaps in terms of customer benefits, but also provide measurable proof," said Anita Würmser, Executive Chairwoman of the IFOY jury.

The winner in the warehouse technology equipment category is the world's first autonomous horizontal order picker iGo neo CX 20 from Still. The decisive factors for the decision were the high degree of innovation combined with outstanding customer benefits and professional implementation. "The iGo neo is a milestone in the development of autonomous industrial trucks. It closes the gap between robotics and intralogistics," said the jury in its statement. Above all, the IFOY test attests to the iGo neo CX 20's spectacular savings compared to conventional order picking. It is more efficient and more productive in all test layouts as soon as the walk-along principle is used. The test team achieved an increase of up to 47 percent.

In a thrilling finish, the flexible TORsten AGV concept from Torwegge took the win in the "Automated Guided Vehicle" category. The omnidirectional heavy-duty AGV drives under the platform and moves loads of up to 7.5 tons. It works with various load carriers, which are equipped with suitable racks or containers depending on the customer's requirements. TORsten was developed in close cooperation with SEW and RWTH Aachen University.

The jury chose the Junheinrich indoor localization system as the must-have of the year in the "Special of the Year" category. The system for locating industrial trucks, which is based on smartphones, beacons and Bluetooth, was particularly impressive due to its excellent customer benefits and high market relevance. "The concept is not only applicable to truck types from different manufacturers, but can also be implemented flexibly, quickly and cost-effectively," said the jury.

Still won a second IFOY Award for its heavy-duty tugger train with automatic loading and unloading. According to the IFOY testers and the jury, the vehicle for production supply, which was manufactured on behalf of an English construction machinery manufacturer, not only extends the range of applications for tugger trains, but also offers obvious advantages with regard to the rising average age of logistics employees, as the physical fitness of the operator is no longer an issue.

The IFOY Award is chosen annually by an independent jury of leading international trade journalists. The decision is based on a neutral test and a scientific innovation check. Both test series compare the finalists with their respective competitor appliances. Since 2013, the IFOY Award has established itself as an indicator of efficiency and innovation and is regarded as the leading innovation prize in intralogistics due to its technical expertise. The IFOY Award, which is under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, is sponsored by the VDMA Materials Handling and Intralogistics Association. IFOY partners are CeMAT, the world's leading trade fair for intralogistics, Hanover, and Messe München with its transport logistic, bauma and IFAT trade fairs. The pallet partner of the IFOY Award is CHEP, the global market leader in the pooling of pallets and containers. The technology partner is the battery charging specialist Fronius.
