The German Parcel and Express Logistics Association (BIEK) forecasts that shippers will produce more than 4.4 billion parcels in Germany in 2023. By comparison, 3.5 billion parcels were delivered in 2018. One challenge that many companies are now tackling is reducing the amount of filling material in the boxes. Only a minority currently use automated packaging systems that produce tailor-made parcels.
