LT-manager 1/19
Editorial: Encounters with smart people
Dear readers, the best thing about my job is meeting smart people who know a lot about logistics - and very often more - who have ideas and visions and who are passionate about their subject.
Michael ten Hompel, holder of the Chair of Materials Handling and Warehousing at the University of Dortmund and head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML, is one of them. The smart Dortmund native has been with LT-manager since the first issue in 2010, when the EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr was just starting up and from then on advanced the industry with its results.
A lot has happened in the industry since then, but his ideas and his talks, books, lectures and personal conversations have remained, which have not only helped me to have numerous "aha" experiences. Today, in 2019, logistics and transport are on the cusp of the all-encompassing digitalization of their processes. Time and reason enough for the professor to describe the "Silicon Economy" exclusively in LT-manager. The "big picture" is now drawn! (from p. 10).
In this issue, we also place a small focus on intralogistics. In the run-up to the most important industry trade fair in this segment, LogiMAT in Stuttgart, we take a look at logistics real estate and present products and services that will cause a sensation there (from p. 16).
Best wishes from Munich,
Martin Schrüfer
Managing Editor-in-Chief
