Columbus McKinnon is a leading developer and manufacturer of motion control products, technologies and services for material handling. Equipped with Magnetek Impulse G+ mini drives, the STF chain hoists offer infinitely variable speed.

"The STF chain hoist combines the performance and reliability expected from a Stahl CraneSystems hoist with the industry-leading design and control features offered by Magnetek," says Marc Döttling, Product Manager at Stahl CraneSystems. "As the frequency inverter can be connected to fieldbus systems such as Modbus, Profibus or Ethernet, the STF chain hoist is an important step towards Industry 4.0. The control technology of the Impulse drives not only enables precise movements, but also provides valuable diagnostic and performance information, such as the current status of the chain hoist, through data exchange with IoT networks."

The STF chain hoist also offers increased safety. If the hoist control unit detects an unintentional movement, for example if the motor brake slips under load, the hoist drive stops and it can no longer be operated. In addition, integrated speed monitoring prevents the motor from exceeding its maximum permissible speed range in the event of a drive malfunction, thereby preventing the load from falling.

The hoist features a 1024 PPR encoder with improved mounting for feedback in harsh operating conditions and allows for motor speed evaluation. Like all chain hoists, the new variable speed model is rated for ambient temperatures from -10° C to 40° C (14°F to 104°F), optionally up to 50°C (122°F), and is suitable for all available line voltages with a variety of customization options.

In addition, the STF chain hoist meets the requirements of protection class IP54 (optionally IP65 / IP67 for outdoor use), which prevents the ingress of water and moisture. The chain hoist is equipped with a hard-wired control unit instead of the usual circuit board controls.
